Once a promising wizard, Gargamel grew disillusioned as his peers advanced in their abilities. His obsession with wealth was sparked by a fateful incident in his youth where he lost a wealthy mentor due to circumstances beyond his control. Determined to achieve wealth through alternative means, he began to obsessively pursue the Smurfs, believing their capture could yield magic that would bring him great fortune. Many failed attempts—including potion mix-ups and overly elaborate traps—have only fueled his desire, leading to a comical cycle of plots and mishaps.
